Rose Gardens & Furry Flowers

Codi and I went to the Portland Rose Gardens yesterday after shopping on NW 23rd. There were no roses. In fact, there were hardly any rose bushes either. Seems like it was recently pruning time, so all we saw there were hundreds of 1′ tall rose-bush stubs. I’m not sure how they’re going to grow from their current state to blooming roses in the next couple months. If they don’t, the Rose Gardens are going to be a drag till next year.

These two pics came out alright.

On our way out, we spotted a neat flowering shrub or tree. I’d never seen anything quite like it. Huge inverted flowers were growing off of wooden stalks. The flowers smelled like jasmine and orange blossom.

The really cool thing about thse flowers was the fact that they were furry, too. The stalks were just wood, the petals were smooth, but the body of the flower and the individual stems to each flower were all covered in a fine white fur.
