80 DEGREES AT THE ROSE GARDENS TODAY

The Portland Rose Gardens were particlularly beautiful today! No roses in bloom yet – maybe 10 or 15 buds in a place where there should be tens of thousands. But there were plenty of other things to take pictures of. Codi and I took 160 photos today! My favorite picture is the one with the white magnolias and the deep blue sky. I really dig that shot! Right when I took that shot, this guy drove up in a suped-up roadster – it was gorgeous. He stopped for a picture then continued on. Thanks, dude!

RANDOM PICS FROM DOWNTOWN PORTLAND

Codi and I took a nice walk today along Waterfront Park in downtown Portland. Here are some photos. The photo with the river shows the Willamette River and Northeast Portland. The paddle boat in the left corner was once a mode of transportation for Portlanders, but now it is home to the Portland Maritime Museum. Today was our first ’summer’ day – over 83 degrees! Lots of people were out today, including one super old guy (old as dirt, really) riding a Segway. He was managing quite well, given the fact that he was also hooked up to oxygen tanks. He was ooold!

I was speaking to someone on the phone today when the phone kept cutting out. It was ‘call waiting’ on the other person’s phone. We were ready to ignore the incoming call when it happened again. There was a brief pause, then… “Oh, hey! Let me call you back. That’s the Pentagon on the other line.” Awesome!

PATIENCE PAYS OFF

I have been waiting for a shot like this for a long time. The moon was not visible until about 15 minutes after sunset and it sort of exploded into view from behind a thin haze. No warning, no slow start – just nothing, then this awesome view!   (Canon Digital Rebel SLR with 300mm lens, effective 450mm zoom thanks to the Rebel’s built-in 1.5x conversion.   f/6 1/200 sec. 400 ISO.)
